Alexander Wilson Tea Room

This room is named after the Paisley born American Ornithologist, Alexander Wilson. As well as being both a weaver and packman in Paisley he was also a talented poet and had a book of his poetry published in 1790. He emigrated to America in 1794 after being punished for writing a libelous poem about a Paisley manufacturer.
The room also contains a print of Rembrant Peale's portrait of Alexander Wilson. The original hangs in the American Philosophical Society's headquarters in Philadelphia, USA.
In the adjoining reception room are artifacts and prints of his journeys around America and prints of his etchings of American birds. His own copy of his poems is also on display.
This room was also a family home and is now used as a meeting room and tearoom. It has an original bed recess with cradle shelf above the bed.
